Study Habits of Highly Effective people

Esp for students taking  chemistry or biology

— O level chemistry  / A level chemistry /O level biology / A level Biology

1. Don’t cram all into 1 session

—Keeping late nights??Fiercely trying to keep your eyes open and expanding more energy to do so than being able to take in notes?… Successful students pace themselves, and rarely do try to cram it all  into just 1 or 2 sessions. If you want to learn from them then you will need to learn to be consistent in studying and you could use some helpful tuition classes to help you along with absorption of useful skills and materials.

2. Commit to a tuition or study schedule

 — Successful students designate specific times throughout the week when to study —  Then they  really do stick to their schedule. Students who study sporadically, normally do not perform as well as students who have a preset tuition/study schedule.  If you do get  caught up with your CCA’s, creating a weekly routine, where you set aside a period of time a few days a week, to review your notes will ensure you develop habits that will enable you to succeed in your studies at the end of the day.

3. Study at the same timing of the day.

Not only is it impt   you plan when you  study, it’s impt you create a committed daily study routine. When you study at the same timing at each day/week, what you study will be ingrained into you. You’ll be more  mentally prepared and emotionally ready for each study session and each study session will add more to your library of knowledge. This allows you to prepared for unexpected events which can occur once it a while, but step back right into schedule.

4. Target each study session with  specific goals

Simply studying blindly is not effective. You need to what you want to achieve during each study session. Before you start on a study session , set a goal that will help  your overall academic endpoint(i.e. student goal : to remember the definitions of all key concepts of biology tuition notes or chemistry tuition notes on O level biology and A level biology or O level chemistry or A level Chemistry.)Do not be afraid to seek help  and be real about seeking help.

5. Never procrastinate on plans.

It’s common to put off your study session because of perceived disinterest, because you couldn’t understand what was taught to you in lectures, or just because you had a tough time. Remember this quote ‘Tough times don’t last ,tough people do;And tough People seek help.’ Successful students DO NOT procrastinate but tough people are determined to outlast the system. Whatever it take s! One Principle : Successful people  are often patient and learn from successful people who have been through the system. If you procrastinate either on studying or seeking help earnestly, your studies will become  less effective and you may not get everything that is needed to be accomplished at the end of the day. Procrastination also leads to rushed work, and rushed work  is the worst cause of errors.

6. Start with the least difficult subject first.

As your least difficult assignment or subject will require the least effort and mental energy, you should start with it first. Once you’ve completed the least difficult work, it will be much easier to complete the rest of your work as your morale will be boosted and you can now focus your energies on the most difficult objectives. This technique will greatly improve the effectiveness of your study sessions, and your academic performance once you get your engine and enthusiasm going.

7. Review your notes

Firstly ,take good notes in class. Then, review your notes objectively before you can complete your assignment in the right manner. Reviewing  notes quickly before each study session will help you remember important content learned during the day, as well as ensuring studying stays focused on main objectives.

8. Eliminate distractions

Everyday life activities can distract you like family or television/movie programmes. However, some people do study with a little background noise but that is a minority. If you are studying and then get distracted  you  might lose your pattern of thought and mental focusing leading to a waste of studying effort. Location may be key, so choosing a quiet place like a library or reading room may be important for you

9. Forming Study/tuition groups

Many heads are better than one… Forming study groups helps you to help yourself and help your friends… However, study groups can form a distraction if they’re not structured and if groups members start talking nonsense. Hence it can be better if group members encourage each other to form tuition groups as they can all focus on a common topic. Even eating at MacDonald’s together  afterwards can build friendships without breaking the common theme focus on studies.

10. Review what you learnt in 48 hrs or at least a week

Successful students do review what they have learned over 48 hrs or at maximum over a week. This ties in with the memory curve of most students and they get ready to assimilate new concepts, building on their knowledge base the previous week. This is especially important for students taking A level biology, O level biology or A level chemistry and O level biology.
